A Small Introduction:There were 7 tribes that were in Texas and in all different regions. There are 4 regions. The Mountains and Basins, Great Plains, North Central Plains, and the Coastal Plains. The geography of each tribe affected their way of life, diet, housing, etc... Each region had a different type of culture. Find out more by reading the passages below!

The Coahuiltecans:
The Coahuiltecans were both Nomadic and Sedentary. They were a part of the Gulf culture,which is in the Coastal Plains (South Texas, Northeastern Mexico). They were hunters and gatherers. They ate deer, rabbits, dirt, buffalo, peccary, fish, rats, mice, many birds, and maggots. The women wore short skirts of animal skin, and the men wore breech cloths. However, the children were naked. These people lived in houses called "Wikiups". The Coahuilteacan peoples had very short lifespans.

The Comanche:
The Karankawa:The Karankawa were Nomadic. They were a part of the gulf culture, (coastal plains). There is a big variety of wildlife in the coastal areas. They ate berries, plant roots, shellfish, rabbits, turkeys, oysters, clams, turtles, and deer. Some of their traditions/customs were dancing, wrestling, sending smoke signals, ceremonial cannibalism, and during battle they ate a piece of their enemies.

The Witchita
The ApacheThe Apache were Nomadic. They were a part of the Plains culture, (great plains, panhandle of Texas). They were brave, powerful, and very aggressive. They travelled mostly on horseback, and came down from Canada in 1528.
